Here is Part 4 of the series Acrylic Pouring
Techniques. We have another four pouring
styles from four different artists who showcase these fascinating acrylic pours
in their youtube videos. Interesting to
watch and so much fun in trying out these acrylic pour paintings. Enjoy !!
MALLET SMASH
As the name indicates, the tool for this acrylic pour
painting is a mallet. This is a straight
forward and easy acrylic technique but it can be a bit messy as paint tends to
splatter. A wet base coat is needed for this style. Paint is poured in puddles across the
canvas. A mallet is then used to smash
the paint and create some very interesting effects. You can then tilt the paint for the desired
effect. In the video below, Ann Osborne
creates a stunning and delicate painting with the mallet smash technique.

OPEN CUP POUR
The open cup technique needs to have a wet base coat to
start off with. Open cups are used to
pour paint into. The paint seeps slowly
from the bottom, making the cups float on the canvas. You can also tilt the canvas to make the cups
float in different directions. You can
add more cups if needed. Tilt the canvas
to move the paint to the desired effect.
A very beautiful effect is achieved by Amanda in her youtube video. Very relaxing to watch.

PAINT BOMBING
The paint bombing technicque sounds dangerous but we
promise it is not, it does not even make the tiniest of noises haha. The bomb ‘apparatus’ is a double lid that
most probably you already have in your home.
You can see what the lid looks like in the video below. (You can also glue a shot glass into a
slightly bigger cup.) Different colours
are poured in the inner part of the lid while another colour is poured in the
outside lid. You might need more than
one lid for a bigger canvas. The lid is
then flipped onto the canvas. In this
technique, Meghan covers the rest of the canvas with a base coat of pouring
medium, to help the paint flow more easily.
The lid is then removed and the paint is tilted giving a very beautiful
effect. The ‘ribbon’ formed in this
painting is simply gorgeous.

VIDEO:PAINT KISS
The paint kiss acrylic pour was created by Olga Soby of
Smart Art Materials. In her own words, ‘in
this technique you would want two streams of paint from separate cups to
connect (kiss) before they hit the surface and create beautiful split-rings’. A wet base is needed for this pour. In the video below, Olga makes a step-by-step
tutorial explaining perfectly this beautiful technique. The final result is simply breathtaking. Our recommendation: subscribe to Smart Art Materials youtube
channel because the information you find in the videos is not to be missed by
anyone who wishes to learn about acrylic paint pouring. We congratulate Smart Art Materials on their
first year anniversary and wish them the success they truly deserve.
