ACRYLIC POURING: EASY BLOOMS FOR BEGINNERS

For many, the Bloom technique can be scary, but Louise McKay takes us step-by-step through this technique where we can practice with the least expenses involved – JAR LIDS.  Yes, any jar with a lid we happen to have at home will do.  With Louise’s tutorial they are very easy to do, hardly use any paint and create a very beautiful jar in the end.  An excellent gift idea !

You can see the tutorial video below.

On her youtube channel, Louise of ‘Louise McKay Art’ has tutorials for several ‘functional art’ pieces including trays, coasters, clocks and turntables with very beautiful colour combinations.

ACRYLIC POURING: KNOWING WHEN TO STOP

As in most abstract art, but most especially in acrylic pouring, sometimes it is difficult knowing when to stop.  At times we have to acknowledge that less is more.  It could be a hard lesson but most acrylic pouring artists have learned this through experiencing it hands on.  It is part of the learning curve.

Enjoy this beautiful video of a DUTCH POUR by CHRISTINE JESZECK of ‘Chris Jeszeck Fluid Art and More!’.  In this video Christine acknowledges that she should have stopped at one point but hindsight is what it is.  As Christine said, we win some, we lose some!

ACRYLIC POURING – PAINT CONSISTENCY CHART

THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH NEW CHART AND INFO  - Click HERE for update.

In acrylic pouring, consistency of paint is a key factor.  It is most important that one is using the correct consistency for the technique one is doing.  Regardless of how well you think you can eyeball it, testing your paint consistency is important to avoid disappointing results.

How to do a paint consistency test ??

Preferably use a glazed tile but you can also use cardboard, glass or any other material that you can hold up and the paint can run down without hindrance.

Put the same sized drop of each of your paint mixes across the top.  Hold it up.  All the colours should run the same, if not, adjust the ones that are running slow.  Test again and repeat until they all run the same.
